The purists of this fine forum will probably be throwing lemons at me for this..
* Some M&P guns were built from unused Ducks Unlimited Trade Model receivers and had a DU serial number. ** The mark HG indicated registration with the BATF. Regular M37 serial numbers apply within this range. *** Approximately 67 King Ferry Models were made. The regular Model 87 serial number also appears on the receiver. In addition, Colt began using a gas fired oven blued process. Between these two factors, the appearance of the M1911 changed from a lustrous blue to almost black. Collectors have since coined the term 'Black Army' to denote the last of the M1911 pistols, with the finish phased in after serial number 312000.
I've been looking for some sort of serial number registry to find out the date of production for an AMT Hardballer Longslide 7' I've been offered to buy. No luck.
A lot has been read about the inconsistency of the production quality, therefore the felt need of this particular research before i make a decision.
The current owner himself says it runs just fine. No feeding problems, no signs of galling and the finish looks like it should. Tight groups at 90 yards with optic sights.
The Serial numbers starts with A367** and is manufactured in Irwindale.
Any help is much appreciated.
EDIT:Spelling.
